Job summary

NBBJ is seeking an Architectural Specifications Writer to join our interdisciplinary team across the firm. This role supports project teams through development and production of contract documents, coordinating with BIM and other disciplines to ensure clear, well-coordinated specifications.

The position can be Intermediate or Senior level and is available in any US office, including Portland. The team emphasizes collaboration, standards, and sustainability in project documentation.

Qualifications

• 4-year college degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management.
• For Intermediate Specification Writers: 5+ years as architect/engineer/construction manager; 3 yrs focusing on specs.
• For Senior Specification Writers: 10+ years as architect/engineer/construction manager; 5 yrs focusing on specs.
• Experience with AIA MasterSpec content.
• Experience with leading spec authoring solutions (cloud-based or otherwise).
• Experience with Word processing software like MS Word.

Responsibilities

• Integrate with project teams and help define project scope and goals.
• Prepare the Project Manual and coordinate the Conditions of the Contract.
• Coordinate specifications with drawings/BIM and other disciplines.
• Perform QA/QC reviews of deliverables.
• Support Construction Administration reviews of submittals and RFI responses.
• Balance multiple project teams and project types.
• Develop and maintain firm-wide specification masters.
• Research materials and products for performance and sustainability.
• Coordinate standards with BIM and participate in specs initiatives.
