Job summary

Merjent, Inc. is seeking an Architectural Historian to work within the Cultural Resources Group on historic research, assessments, field surveys, and new client development.

The role supports NHPA/NEPA compliance and national project work with travel as needed. The position is full-time with benefits, offering remote, in-office, or hybrid work arrangements across the U.S., including Minneapolis, MN or Appleton, WI offices.

Qualifications

• Master's degree plus 3+ years of relevant experience or Bachelor's plus 5+ years, per job posting.
• Meet the Secretary of the Interior's 36 CFR Part 61 Qualifications in Architectural History.
• Minimum 3 years' NHPA/NEPA experience including surveys and NRHP determinations.
• Experience in cultural resources management and supervising projects.

Responsibilities

• Assist project managers and coordinate NHPA/NEPA compliance.
• Assess NRHP eligibility of resources and districts.
• Write architectural descriptions, histories, context statements, significance, and effects.
• Conduct historic research using primary/secondary sources and historical records.
• Engage with the public and stakeholders.
• Prepare NHPA/Section 106 compliance documentation and technical reports.
• Conduct field surveys and site visits (approx. 20% travel).
• Independently manage architectural history projects and mentor staff.
