Job summary

GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking an Architectural Historian to support archival research, historical surveys, and compliance reporting.

This role can be staffed in Pittsburgh, PA or other GAI locations and can be remote or hybrid, with extensive travel for field surveys and data collection. The ideal candidate has a degree in History or Historic Preservation and strong writing, communication, and analytical skills, plus experience with Section 106 and Esri Field Maps/Survey123.

Qualifications

• Associate's/Bachelor's/Master's degree in History, Architectural History, Historic Preservation or related discipline preferred.
• Must be organized and write concisely and clearly.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and governmental regulations.
• Strong writing and communication skills.
• Candidate must have a current driver's license.
• Ability to read and navigate field maps.
• Experience with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
• Experience on large-scale power/energy projects (pipeline, transmission, renewable energy).
• Experience using Esri software (Field Maps, Survey123).

Responsibilities

• Conduct archival and background research.
• Perform architectural and historical field surveys (overnight travel required).
• Prepare architectural inventory forms.
• Author architectural and historical resources reports.
• Prepare Determination of Eligibility forms.
