Job summary

Job description

Overview

The Architect works under the Manager of Architecture to develop design work, produce technical drawings and specifications, coordinate other disciplines, and handle in‑house contract administration for projects of moderate size and complexity. This position may be based in any of the company’s U.S. offices, including Chicago, IL; Birmingham, AL; Grand Rapids, MI; Dearborn, MI; Indianapolis, IN; and Fort Worth, TX.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and run small to moderate scale projects with some complexity.
  • Establish factual parameters of design work (code, site restrictions, budget, etc.), identify building systems options and related performance and cost criteria, and assist in the presentation of design documents.
  • Formulate the project work plan and mini‑sheet sets based on an approved scope of work.
  • Lead the execution of the identified tasks and assume primary responsibility for daily activities of the architectural project team, progress of the work, and technical quality of construction documents.
  • Provide mentorship and learning opportunities for less experienced staff.
  • Accurately produce schematic design, design development, and construction documents.
  • Proficiently apply architectural graphic standards and manage construction drawing set organization and development.
  • Assist the Project Manager in adhering to the project schedule and budget; identify changes to the scope of work and their repercussions.
  • Advise the Manager of Architecture (VP or Director) on staffing requirements for projects.
  • Prepare document release write‑ups for addenda and bulletins related to architectural work.
  • Initiate and orchestrate the work of the entire project team, facilitating timely exchange of information among all members.
  • Coordinate all disciplines, documents, and enforce quality control procedures.
  • Perform all in‑house contract administration duties: respond to RFIs, review shop drawings, issue bulletins, and assist with field representation services as requested.
  • Maintain and improve office architectural standards, details, and production tools.
  • Be proficient with Revit model creation and management, including family content and workset/model configuration in accordance with company standards.
  • Possess knowledge of laser scanning and point clouds.
  • Accept constructive feedback and mentorship to enhance professional development.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Architectural Engineering (Master’s preferred).
  • Accreditation: NCARB AXP completion preferred; licensing exams in progress preferred.
  • Certifications: LEED and WELL Building certifications preferred.
  • Experience: 5+ years related architecture experience.
  • Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, BIM360/ACC, and point cloud software.
  • Good written and verbal communication.
