Job summary

Summitbsa in Glen Jean, West Virginia seeks an Archery Merit Badge Instructor to lead safety-focused shooting activities and mentor participants in various merit badges.

You will instruct in classroom or range settings, ensure equipment safety, track completions, and model the Scout Oath and Law, with training provided for the USA Archery Level 1 certification. Housing is provided at Staff Camp; work hours are 45-55.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• USA Archery Level 1 Instructor certification (training provided).
• Preferred: experience in competitive shooting or hunting.
• Willing to become a registered Scouting America member (background screening).
• Comfortable using Microsoft Teams for daily work-related communication.

Responsibilities

• Maintain 100% equipment accountability.
• Electronically track merit badge completions accurately.
• Model the Scout Oath and Law in daily interactions.

Job description

Position Overview

Instill proper knowledge, skills, and attitude with participants. Provide high quality instruction, direct leadership, and mentorship in all shooting venues.

Key Responsibilities

• Always ensures range safety
• Instructs and coaches Merit Badge students in a classroom or range environment
• 100% accountability of all equipment at all times
• Electronically tracks merit badge completions correctly and accurately in a timely manor
• Model the Scout Oath and Law in daily interactions

• Maintain a clean, organized, inspected, neat, and safe work area
• Perform additional duties assigned by SBR leadership

• Abide by policies and procedures outlined in the SBR staff handbook

Qualifications

• Minimum age: 18+

• Required: USA Archery Level 1 Instructor (training provided)
• Preferred: Experience in competitive shooting or hunting, any discipline
• Willing to become a registered Scouting America member (includes background screening)
• Comfortable using Microsoft Teams for daily work-related communication

Physical & Practical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, and hike up to 9 hours daily and ability to lift/move up to 70 pounds
• Complete the Annual Health and Medical Record, including height/weight guidelines
• Housing: 10'x12' platform tent in Staff Camp | Uniform: Summit Staff Uniform | Work Hours: 45-55
