Job summary

The State of Louisiana, Office of Cultural Development, invites applications for a full-time MHPA 106 reviewer focused on archaeology in Baton Rouge. You will evaluate Section 106 submissions to fulfill SHPO responsibilities under NHPA, maintain GIS databases, and coordinate with the State Archaeologist to ensure timely reviews.

Travel may be required; fieldwork is not part of this role. Qualifications include a bachelor’s or master’s degree in anthropology/archaeology or heritage resources,

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in anthropology, archaeology, maritime studies, geography, history, or heritage resources plus one year of experience as an archaeologist; OR a master’s degree in the same fields.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, upgrade, and edit the Division’s GIS; input archaeologically surveyed areas.
• Maintain the Section 106 database; coordinate with clients and agencies; ensure timely submission and logging.
• Review projects for impact on archaeological resources; ensure reviews occur within 30 days.
• Provide technical comments on marine archaeological surveys and recommendations.
• Assist with outreach activities and other duties as assigned.
