Job Description

AECOM is seeking multiple, on-call Archaeological Technicians to join our Cultural Services team. This remote-based role is ideally located in Colorado, Ohio, Kansas, Wisconsin, Minnesota, or Michigan, but can be based anywhere in the U.S. with travel required. The technicians will support fieldwork across the Midwest, with opportunities for travel nationwide.

*Current projects are mainly in Missouri and Kansas. This is an immediate hiring need, with roles to be filled over the coming weeks.

The Archaeological Technician performs fieldwork under supervision, including survey, site recordation, testing, and data recovery. This is a part-time role, with flexible workdays and hours, often requiring travel for up to 3+ months. Lodging and per diem are provided.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Conduct archaeological fieldwork such as surveys, site documentation, testing, and evaluations.
  • Perform manual labor including excavation and moving soil.
  • Work in outdoor environments, capable of bending, kneeling, standing, and lifting up to 50 lbs in various weather conditions.
  • Assist with mapping and GPS data collection using Trimble units.
  • Identify and document archaeological sites and artifacts.
  • Maintain detailed documentation through forms, notes, and photos.
  • Work independently under supervision.
  • Conduct research and prepare reports.
Qualifications

Minimum:

  • High School diploma + 2 years relevant experience or equivalent in archaeology and cultural resource management.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good record.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field.
  • 3+ years of field methodology experience.
  • Experience with GPS and GIS technologies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Additional Information
  • US Citizenship required.
  • Role can be based anywhere in the U.S.; compensation varies by location, with an estimated range of $22.00 to $26.00 per hour.
