Job description

Environmental Science Associates (ESA) - On-Call Archaeological Field Technicians

ESA is seeking On-Call Archaeological Field Technicians in Central California, including Fresno and the Central Valley. Candidates should be within a commutable distance and able to support on-site field work as needed.

Who You Are
  • Experienced in archaeological and/or paleontological monitoring, surveys, and documentation, following local, state, and federal guidelines. Reside in Central Valley, California, or willing to travel from elsewhere in California, including potential travel to Southern California, Nevada, and Arizona.
  • Hold a Bachelor's degree or higher in archaeology, anthropology, paleontology, or a related field. Proficient with app-based software for field recordation and mapping.
  • Familiar with active construction site work, completing DPR forms, regional archaeological materials, and have at least six months of field experience or relevant academic experience in Northern California.
  • Enjoy outdoor work, capable of walking long distances with up to 50 lbs. of gear in various conditions, including strenuous habitats and weather. Some night and weekend work may be required.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and experience driving off-road 4WD vehicles.
What You Will Do for ESA

Support field projects in Northern California by performing archaeological and paleontological monitoring, coordinating with construction personnel, and interacting with Native American monitors. Responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring construction activities for archaeological and paleontological resources.
  • Communicating effectively with construction crews and project staff.
  • Maintaining detailed records using electronic data collection tools and GIS mapping applications.

Additional Details

Pay ranges are approximately $23.73 – $37.59 USD, depending on location, experience, and qualifications. ESA is an employee-owned company that values diversity and inclusion. We require proof of vaccination or an approved exemption for in-person work, and are an Equal Opportunity Employer.
