Compensation Range: $51,100 - $76,700

Compensation may vary based on applicant's work experience, education level, skill set, and/or location.

Job Purpose

We are seeking a Field Service Technician who will perform both in-shop and field service work in the underground mine environment. The role involves planning and coordinating activities related to installing equipment, investigating and resolving customer reports of technical problems, and eliminating future operational or service difficulties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Travel to customer sites to install, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on equipment including flooded and sealed batteries, chargers, and DC power distribution equipment (cable trays, battery racks, and power cables).
  • Interact with all levels of people, both inside and outside the company.
  • Develop and conduct training on the safe operation of equipment and demonstrate skills to trainees, including team members and customers.
  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections and record data.
  • Replace defective parts, reassemble batteries, and fuse lead parts with a gas torch.
  • Determine specific gravity of solutions.
  • Water, wash, clean, and neutralize customer batteries at their location.
  • Install equipment at customer facilities to ensure full functionality according to specifications.
  • Provide on-site technical assistance for troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Maintain records of performance reports.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures related to warranty, safety, environmental, OSHA, DOT Hazmat, and ISO9000 standards.
  • Serve as a communication link between the customer and the company to ensure effective service.
Qualifications

To succeed as a Field Service Technician, candidates must perform essential duties satisfactorily. Requirements include:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent; or industry-related experience and/or training in installation, maintenance, and repair; or equivalent experience in manufacturing or production.
  • MSHA Certification – 80 hours completion.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and the Internet.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience with hand and power tools.
  • Customer service experience in field support.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and write documents in English.
  • Basic math skills and ability to solve simple equations.

Driving Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel to customer sites.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • At least 21 years old to operate a company vehicle.
  • Ability to operate a forklift.
  • Willingness to undertake overnight travel.
General Job Requirements
  • Willing to do overnight travel and operate a forklift.
  • Must pass company’s driving requirements; some vehicles may require specific licenses.
  • Physical ability to bend, twist, reach, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Ability to differentiate colors.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds/23 kilos regularly; heavier items require mechanical assistance or another employee.
  • Stand for long periods.
  • Wear required Personal Protective Equipment at all times.
  • Willingness to be on-call, wear a respirator, work overtime, and work varying schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Exposure to electrical shocks and harmful materials like lead/fiberglass; periodic blood tests required.
  • Work in a plant/warehouse environment with varying conditions.
