Job description

Environmental Science Associates (ESA) is actively seeking On-Call Archaeological Field Technicians in the Central California Area, including Fresno and the Central Valley. Candidates must be within a commutable distance and able to support field work on-site as needed.


Who You Are


  • You are experienced in archaeological and/or paleontological monitoring, surveys, and documentation in accordance with local, state, and federal guidelines. You live in Central Valley, California, or are willing to travel from elsewhere in California, including potential travel to Southern California, Nevada, and Arizona.
  • You hold a Bachelor's degree or higher in archaeology, anthropology, paleontology, or a related field. You are proficient with app-based software for field recordation and mapping.
  • You are familiar with working on active construction sites, completing DPR forms, and have a minimum of six months of field experience or relevant academic experience in Northern California.
  • You enjoy working outdoors, can walk long distances carrying up to 50 lbs., and can work in various conditions, including strenuous habitats and adverse weather. Some night and weekend work may be required.
  • You possess a valid driver's license and have experience driving off-road, four-wheel-drive vehicles.

As an archaeological field technician, you will support field projects in Northern California by monitoring construction activities, identifying resources, communicating effectively with construction crews, and maintaining detailed records using electronic tools and GIS applications.

Note: The pay range for this position is approximately $23.73 to $37.59 per hour, depending on location, experience, and qualifications.
