Job description

Environmental Science Associates (ESA) is actively seeking On-Call Archaeological Field Technicians in the Central California Area, including Fresno and the Central Valley. Candidates must be within a commutable distance and able to support field work on-site as needed.

Who You Are
  1. You are an effective team member experienced in archaeological and/or paleontological monitoring, surveys, and documentation of archaeological and/or paleontological resources in accordance with applicable guidelines. You live in Central Valley, California. Candidates from elsewhere in California will be considered if available to travel to remote locations, including potential travel to Southern California, Nevada, and Arizona.
  2. You hold a Bachelor's degree or higher in archaeology, anthropology, paleontology, or related fields. You are proficient in using app-based software for field recordation and mapping.
  3. You are familiar with working on active construction sites, completing DPR forms, and have a minimum of six months of field experience or relevant academic experience in Northern California.
  4. You enjoy working outdoors, can walk long distances carrying up to 50 lbs., and can work in various conditions, including strenuous habitats and adverse weather. Availability for some nights and weekends is required.
  5. You possess a valid driver's license and experience driving off-road, 4-wheel-drive vehicles.
What You Will Do for ESA

Support field projects in Northern California by performing archaeological and/or paleontological monitoring, working on construction sites, coordinating with construction personnel, and interacting with Native American monitors. Responsibilities include:

  1. Monitoring construction activities for archaeological and/or paleontological resources.
  2. Communicating effectively with construction crews and project staff.
  3. Maintaining detailed written logs and utilizing electronic data collection tools and GIS mapping applications.

Additional Information

Pay ranges are established based on geographic location, with an estimated range of $23.73—$37.59 USD per hour. Actual pay depends on experience, education, skills, and location.
