Job Description

General Responsibilities:

Terracon offers an exciting opportunity to lead archaeological teams in performing Phase I surveys, Phase II testing, and Phase III data recovery excavations on pre-contact and/or historic period archaeological sites in the Mid-Atlantic and Eastern Midwest regions. Our projects include highway and utility corridors, bridge replacements, municipal water and sewer lines, commercial projects, and private developments. Field crews work five to ten-day shifts, in a wide variety of environments (mountain forest, agricultural fields, subdivisions, and urban centers), with paid lodging and per diem.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Lead teams performing fieldwork;
  2. Perform laboratory tasks such as sorting, washing, identifying, and labeling artifacts;
  3. Prepare accurate field and laboratory documentation and mapping;
  4. Complete time and expense reports using online applications, and train field crew to do so;
  5. Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects;
  6. Participate in pre-task planning;
  7. Report any safety issues or concerns to management;
  8. Obey all company safety procedures;
  9. Maintain quality standards on all projects;
  10. Contribute to the production of technical reports as needed.

This is a full-time position with benefits based out of our Pittsburgh office.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Anthropology or a closely related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • A minimum of three (3) years of professional archaeological experience.
  • A minimum of six (6) months of experience as a Field Director (Pennsylvania or adjacent regions preferred).
  • Working knowledge of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
  • Experience with curation procedures according to regional standards.
  • Experience with GIS and digital recording tools for field use.
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and walking on uneven surfaces, carrying at least 20 lbs., and working in extreme weather conditions.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.
  • Means of transportation (vehicle).
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening.
