Job summary

The Grosse Pointe Public Schools System seeks a part-time swim instructor to teach American Red Cross classes from preschool through Level 6 and supervise non-instructional swim programs as assigned. You will develop lesson plans, test students, and issue certificates as required.

Responsibilities include handling water safety, operating handicap equipment, and responding to emergencies with first aid. ARC certifications are required, and experience is preferred but not mandatory.

Qualifications

• ARC lifeguard, CPR, first aid, AED, and WSI certifications required.
• Able to work with swimmers of various ages and abilities.
• Experience as swim instructor preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Teach American Red Cross swim classes from preschool through Level 6.
• Develop and implement lesson plans, test students, and issue certificates.
• Supervise lifeguards and swim assistants when working with staff; lifeguard duties if alone.
• Work with swimmers in water as needed and operate handicap chair, lift, and rescue equipment.
• Respond to emergencies using appropriate first aid.
• Teach other ARC/non-ARC swim classes or supervise non-instructional swim programs as assigned.
