Job summary

Jobtailor seeks an experienced arborist to perform tree inventories, health evaluations, and risk assessments across urban and natural areas in California. You will collect data with ESRI Field Map and GIS tools, identify species, and ensure safety on-site in diverse environments.

Applicants should have a BS in Forestry or related field, 2+ years of field experience, and familiarity with ANSI A300 standards. Travel across the Bay Area may be required.

Qualifications

• ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) preferred
• Minimum of two years of experience conducting tree inventories, tree assessments, or urban forestry fieldwork
• Ability to accurately identify common tree species found in Southern California urban, natural, and desert environments
• Knowledge of arboricultural best management practices and ANSI A300 standards
• U.S. work authorization required

Responsibilities

• Provide professional arboricultural services supporting tree inventories, urban forest assessments, tree risk evaluations, and natural resource planning
• Perform tree inventories and assessments in city streets, parks, urban areas, oak woodlands, desert environments, and undeveloped lands
• Record tree species, diameter at standard height (DSH), canopy spread, and tree height using the ESRI Field Map data collection platform
• Evaluate tree health, maintenance needs, structural defects, and potential risk conditions
• Travel throughout the Bay Area and surrounding regions
• Follow safety procedures near roadways, active construction sites, and remote field locations
• Perform additional arboricultural and urban forestry duties as assigned

Requirements

• International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist
• Minimum of two years of experience conducting tree inventories, tree assessments, or urban forestry fieldwork
• Ability to accurately identify common tree species found in Southern California urban, natural, and desert environments
• Ability to work independently and efficiently
• Knowledge of arboricultural best management practices and ANSI A300 standards
• BS in forestry or closely related field or formal training in arboriculture or urban tree management
• Experience using GIS-based field data collection tools, GPS units, and inventory software
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites
• ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) preferred
• Experience with municipal, oak woodland, and Joshua tree inventories preferred
• Experience using ArcGIS Pro, Field Maps, Survey123, or Collector preferred
• Successful candidates must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check
• U.S. work authorization required
