Job summary

Red 6 Aerospace, Inc. seeks an experienced mechanical design engineer to translate high-level product needs into actionable mechanical solutions.

You will collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to define requirements, align on approaches, and develop BOMs, assembly instructions, design specs, test plans, and schedules for production readiness. You will lead design reviews, develop drawings, apply GD&T, perform FEA/CFD analyses, and mature early prototypes toward production-ready hardware

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
  • 2–5 years hands-on design and prototyping in precision mechanisms and/or optical systems.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to solve design challenges.
  • Strong knowledge of 3D mathematics, modeling, and simulation.
  • DFM and DFA with part and assembly tolerance management.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods and rapid prototyping.
  • Experience with PCB/PCBA mechanical integration.
  • Understanding tradeoffs among mechanical, optical, electrical, and thermal aspects.
  • Experience creating mechanical test procedures and verification activities.
  • Experience with FEA/CFD and related tools.
  • Translate Industrial Design into manufacturable mechanical design.
  • Experience with production processes such as injection molding, casting, MIM, machining.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical engineering and design reviews.
  • Develop drawings and specs; review vendor proposals for compliance.
  • Gather component-level design requirements with stakeholders.
  • Identify optimal technologies within product cost constraints.
  • Establish guidelines for system- and component-level specs.
  • Apply precision-tolerance techniques to optical and mechanical designs.
  • Lead engineering design reviews and drive reliability improvements.
  • Collaborate across disciplines and guide issue resolution.
  • Mature prototypes toward production-ready products.
  • Plan and manage design-development activities with Project Management.
  • Plan and execute simulations, modeling, design, and tests.
  • Troubleshoot system-level issues and develop verification tests.
  • Create development test plans for industry standards.
  • Perform system and subsystem design, modeling, and prototyping.
  • Conduct structural analysis with hand calculations and FEA.
  • Apply design-for-manufacturability and GD&T principles.
  • Provide status reports and technical documentation.
  • Research and apply advanced materials and manufacturing processes.
