Job summary

Sound Retina is seeking a Payment Poster/AR Specialist to enter payments on accounts, post insurance and patient payments, and resolve denials. The role requires handling adjustments, reconciling monies, and ensuring timely reimbursement.

You will liaise with the lockbox vendor, follow up on problem accounts, and support the Finance team in monthly close. Reporting to the Director of Finance and Business Services, you will manage denial patterns, file appeals when needed, and assist with patient

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; some college preferred.
• Minimum two years billing and medical collections experience using a practice management billing system.
• Ability to work quickly and accurately with attention to detail.
• Good organizational and multi-tasking skills; strong oral communication.
• Able to demonstrate independent judgment and initiative.

Responsibilities

• Post insurance payments to accounts and record adjustments.
• Post patient payments to accounts and balance cash.
• Run balancing reports and reconcile cash batches; print batch reports and file documentation.
• Meet monthly close deadlines and respond to payment/adjustment questions.
• Work with lockbox vendor/bank to ensure timely, clear processes; escalate issues as needed.
• Flag EOB issues for Insurance A/R Specialist and follow up on problem accounts.
• File and submit secondary claims when required; use payer portals where applicable.
• Review and resolve cash/wallet balance discrepancies and denials; document trends for management.
• Assist patients with billing questions in person, email, or phone.
• Stay updated on billing, coding publications and disseminate to staff.

Education

High school diploma with some college preferred

Minimum two years billing and medical collections experience

Ability to work quickly and accurately, with attention to detail

Good organizational and multi-tasking skills. Good oral communication skills.

Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting 20-pound boxes and bending
