The Northeast Bronx YMCA is seeking an Aquatics Supervisor who will be responsible for maintaining safe conditions in and around the swim area. They will promote a safe and positive atmosphere in accordance with YMCA aquatics policies and procedures. The Aquatics Supervisor will lifeguard, provide swim instruction for different ages and ability levels, and motivate their participants. They will also provide on-deck supervision during program times, assist the Aquatics Director with maintaining records, and ensure participant or parent/guardian concerns are addressed in a timely manner. The Aquatics Supervisor will serve as a model to promote and demonstrate a professional demeanor (uniform and positive attitude) to other aquatics staff.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Must be Rescue Ready: uniform, pocket face mask/gloves, whistle, and rescue tube.
2. Continuous and active scanning of the pool.
3. Must be Instructor Ready: uniform, lesson plans, maintain records (attendance, track progress, and complete end-of-session reports).
4. Instruct participants according to YMCA aquatics program standards, using all 5 components, guided discovery, effective class organization, and positive relationship with participants.
5. Ensure instructional equipment remains in good condition. Have all equipment ready before classes and put it away after.
6. Attend mandatory in-service training monthly.
7. Must attain the YMCA Lifeguard Certification within 90 days of hire and the YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification within 120 days of hire.
8. Know and understand the Emergency Action Plan and Emergency Evacuation Routes.
9. Enforce aquatics safety rules consistently and fairly.
10. Maintain positive relationships with class participants, parents/guardians, non-class members, and staff. Show members and colleagues respect by listening carefully and showing empathy when dealing with a difficult situation.
11. Assist the Aquatics Director with office duties, including, but not limited to, retrieving and responding to messages, assisting with program and staff schedules, maintaining class ratios when needed, and covering Lifeguard and/or Instructor shifts when needed.
12. Send mandatory Monthly Staff tracking and safety checklists to the Association Office.
13. Be punctual for all shifts.
14. Support and assist with fundraising and program events.
15. Follow the directions of the YMCA Aquatics Director in accordance with YMCA Aquatic standards.

Desired Skills & Experience:

1. High School diploma or equivalent.
2. Minimum age – 18 years old.
3. Current YMCA Lifeguard certification or equivalent.
4. Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification or equivalent.
5. Current CPRO, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certifications.
6. Demonstrate swim strokes, lifeguard rescues, and CPRO/FA/EO skills.
7. Maintain certification level of physical and mental readiness.
8. Responsible for recertification before expiration.
9. Must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
