Job summary

The City of New York’s NYC Parks department seeks a Recreation Specialist to design and deliver aquatic and general recreation programs. You will run workshops, supervise activities, and ensure safety while engaging diverse community groups.

Qualifications

  • 18 months of participation in an art, craft or other recreational pursuit as a teacher, performer, coach, official, contestant or demonstrator.
  • Experience or study in that art, craft or recreational pursuit acquired through job training, internships, or education over at least three years.
  • A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision, conduct dynamic and innovative workshops, sports and recreational programs.
  • Provide aquatic and other recreational programming for diverse groups.
  • Lead and coach youth activities, and teach basic fitness and safety principles.
  • Maintain equipment and facilities daily, and report hazards.
  • Collect and submit accurate data and reports to meet deadlines.
