Job summary

SmartRecruiters, Inc. is recruiting Swim Instructors for NYC Parks to organize and teach the Learn to Swim program citywide this summer. Positions are part-time and full-time for the 8–9 month duration, with up to 21 hours per week and location across the City.

Instructors will teach all ages, supervise aquatic activities, coach teams, and assist Aquatics Directors at camps. Strong communication and safety awareness are essential; opportunities to lead youth programming are available.

Qualifications

• 18 months of participation in an art, craft or recreational pursuit as a teacher, performer, coach, official, contestant or demonstrator, with at least one year of experience.
• Experience or study in that art, craft or recreational pursuit to be performed on the job over a three-year period in training, internships, volunteer service, school or other appropriate institution.
• A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience.
• All candidates must have at least one year of experience or education in that art, craft or recreational pursuit to be performed on the job.

Responsibilities

• Conduct workshops and recreational programs for the Aquatics Division.
• Provide swim instruction to tots, children, adults, seniors and people with disabilities; coach swim teams and supervise lap swim as needed.
• Develop programming to engage New Yorkers in aquatic recreational activities.
• Lead and coach youth Aquatics programming.
• Instruct participants in basic fitness skills and safety.
• Lead aquatics fitness classes for New Yorkers of all ages.
• Maintain equipment and fitness areas daily and keep inventory of materials.
• Inspect public spaces and report unsafe conditions.
• Establish program objectives, evaluate recreational programs and design curricula.
• Promote NYC Parks Recreation Center memberships and assist in events and projects.
• Collect and submit data and reports to meet deadlines.
