Job summary

Gfoat coordinates and oversees aquatics classes and activities for all age groups and abilities, under the supervision of the Aquatics Manager. The role also serves as the primary HR liaison for onboarding and recruiting, and supports other divisions as needed.

Qualified candidates will hold current Lifeguard, Water Safety Instructor, CPO/AFO, and Lifeguard Instructor certifications or have plans to obtain them within defined timeframes.

Qualifications

  • Current Lifeguard certification is required.
  • Water Safety Instructor certification is required or must be able to obtain within three months of employment.
  • A Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certificate is required or must be able to obtain within three months.
  • Lifeguard Instructor certification is required or must be able to obtain within six months.
  • Criminal background check is required.
  • Drug/alcohol test with random testing throughout employment.

Job description

The purpose of this position is to coordinate aquatics classes and activities for all age groups, interests, and abilities under the general supervision of the Aquatics Manager. This position also serves as the primary HR liaison for new employees and recruiting efforts, and supports other divisions as necessary.

Qualifications and Experience (Required):
  • Current Lifeguard certification is required.
  • Water Safety Instructor certification is required or must be able to obtain within three months of employment.
  • A Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certificate is required or must be able to obtain within three months.
  • Lifeguard Instructor certification is required or must be able to obtain within six months.
Preferred:
  • Water Safety Instructor Trainer preferred.
  • Lifeguard Instructor Trainer preferred.
Background Requirements:

Candidates offered a position must successfully complete the following:

  • A comprehensive criminal background check.
  • Successful completion of a drug/alcohol test. This position will be subject to random testing throughout the duration of employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Advanced knowledge and skill in performing water rescue techniques, first aid, and CPR on all persons.
  • Knowledge of aquatic programming and pool codes
  • Advanced knowledge and skills in planning and conducting lifeguard training classes.
  • Advanced ability to swim and perform rescue operations.
  • Ability to lift and carry persons while performing rescue operations.
  • Ability to stand, bend, squat, kneel, push, pull, and stoop while performing duties at the aquatics center.
  • Ability to perform duties required or necessary for lifeguarding.
  • Advanced skill in interpersonal communication and conflict resolution.
  • Advanced skill in the de-escalation of sensitive or aggressive customer/vendor/citizen issues.
  • Advanced skill in analyzing data, identifying trends and creating actionable data strategies.
  • Strong project management skills and experience with project management methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to simultaneously coordinate multiple tasks and priorities and support multiple individuals, teams, and work groups.
  • Ability to establish and maintain project schedules and balance responsibilities for multiple projects.
  • Ability to maintain professional, cordial, conciliatory and facilitative communication at all times, regardless of circumstance or situation.
  • Ability to continually demonstrate practical knowledge, analytical judgements and informed decision-making.
  • Ability to provide technical, practical or functional knowledge related to job functions.
  • Ability to effectively inform, educate, persuade or influence others related to job functions and necessary outcomes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively on technical, interpersonal and professional levels to diverse audiences, communities and interest groups.
  • Must have the ability to irregularly work a flexible schedule that may include weekends, evenings and holidays. Must be able to work in-office, in the field or in designated satellite environments.
