Job summary

West Suburban YMCA is seeking an Aquatics Coordinator to lead dynamic pool programs, support staff, and ensure a safe, welcoming experience for members. You’ll assist the Aquatics Director, train staff, and help implement high-quality, member-focused programs.

The role emphasizes DEIB, staff development, lifeguarding, swim instruction, and coordination of the Blue Waves Swim Team. Weekend/evening availability is possible, with a strong commitment to community wellbeing and excellence.

Qualifications

• Certifications in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, Lifeguard Training, and YMCA Swim Instructor or equivalent.
• Knowledge of DEIB and equity-centered work encouraged.
• Ability to supervise and train staff and volunteers.
• Experience in aquatics supervision or swim instruction preferred.
• Minimum age 21 required.

Responsibilities

• Lead community-focused aquatics programs and support YMCA objectives.
• Assist with recruiting and hiring diverse staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. Onboards and develops them for success.
• Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
• Support DEIB efforts and equity-centered initiatives.
• Lifeguard and teach swim lessons when needed.
• Manage Blue Waves Swim Team responsibilities (Church Street location).
• Assist in managing rosters, mid-session reports, certificates of completion and registrations.
• Handle daily emails/voicemails to the Aquatics Department.
• Assist with lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings and in-services.
• Assist in coverage and finding coverage for pool schedules.
• Assist in marketing and distribution of program information.
• Assist in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
• Models relationship-building skills in all interactions and respond to member/inquiry/complaints.
• Create and execute one new program idea per session/quarter.
• May include a summer off-site at a WSY summer camp.
• Position may include weekends and evenings.
