Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Brandywine at Lionville Community YMCA in Exton, PA is seeking a part-time lifeguard to protect members and program participants across all aquatic facilities. The role emphasizes vigilance, policy enforcement, and emergency readiness in line with state and YMCA standards.

Responsibilities include active zone scanning, rotations, and maintaining a safe pool environment. Training, drills, and a strong safety culture are fundamental to this position.

Qualifications

• Must be 15 years of age or older.
• Current lifeguarding certification from Ellis & Associates.
• Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, Oxygen Administration, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens.
• Complete required monthly in‑service hours of Ellis & Associates in‑service training and scanning skills.

Responsibilities

• Actively scanning the assigned zone every 10 seconds and reach farthest point within 20 seconds.
• Rotate zones and perform bottom scans during rotations.
• Maintain visibility, avoid glare, and keep pool area in view at all times.
• Guard from elevated chair or within one foot of pool edge, depending on position.
• Participate in drills and trainings; respond as if live situations.
• Close pool if unsafe and alert a supervisor per policies.
• Enforce pool rules with courtesy and fairness.
• Assist with facility cleanliness and branch duties while on rotation.
