Job Description
GENERAL FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the appropriate Director, the Aquatic Director provides leadership and management for the branch Aquatics department operations, staff, budget, fundraising, as well as the program and membership experience in accordance with all Greater Wichita YMCA policies, procedures and standards. A 40-hour per week schedule will be necessary to accomplish the assigned duties.
Job Responsibilities
Staff Development:
- Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule and manage a high-performing staff focused on providing exceptional service and work well as a team.
- Develop strategies to support and motivate staff for achievement of goals and retention.
- Review and evaluate staff performance.
- Maintain staff retention through positive reinforcement and support.
- Ensure adequate lifeguard coverage during operating hours.
- Conduct lifeguard, swim lesson instructor, and safety certification trainings.
- Responsible for safety drills/audits, staff meetings, and trainings.
- Ensure staff certification records are current and meet all in-service standards.
Program Operations:
- Communicate the mission, vision, and values of the Wichita YMCA effectively.
- Ensure all programs comply with YMCA standards.
- Integrate member-service and engagement strategies to promote positive recruitment and retention.
- Build and expand program enrollment and participation.
- Coordinate the Splash outreach program.
- Keep accurate records of attendance and participation.
- Distribute progress reports to program participants.
- Monitor and evaluate program and staff effectiveness for quality assurance.
- Be visible to staff and members.
- Respond to inquiries and concerns within 24 hours.
- Communicate program information and needs in a timely manner.
Fiscal Management:
- Develop, monitor, and meet or exceed budget targets.
- Produce effective staff schedules within payroll budgets.
Community Campaign/Financial Development:
- Lead aspects of the Strong Community Campaign and fundraising efforts.
Facilities Development:
- Familiarize with risk management procedures.
- Monitor pool operations to comply with health and safety regulations.
- Organize, plan, and schedule pool activities.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment.
- Keep an up-to-date inventory of equipment and supplies.
Other:
- Serve on the branch management team.
- Communicate promptly with leadership and staff.
- Attend training and conferences for professional development.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
- Minimum age 21.
- At least one year managing a department’s budget, staff, and performance.
- Relevant aquatics experience.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
