Job Overview: The Aquatics Director is responsible for the development, operations, and supervision of all aspects of aquatics program at the Riverdale Y, including developing, organizing, operating a high-quality aquatic experiences that are safe, fun, and enjoyable for members and program participants. Responsibilities also include building a collaborative team to create a highly functional, productive, and positive team of aquatics professionals. The Director is an integral part of the Membership Experience team, including the Membership, Fitness and Sports departments. Key Responsibilities include: Aquatics Program Development: Develop and implement a comprehensive year-round aquatics program including group lessons, private lessons, summer camp, and special events in coordination with agency priorities and needs. Develop and manage the aquatics program annual budget for the Riverdale YM-YWHA within approved budget guidelines, in consultation with supervisor and CFO meeting annual revenue goals. Aquatics Staff Management: Hire, train, supervise, and manage all staff members working for the aquatics department and supporting programs, ensuring the highest level of safety, professionalism, and aquatics member/participant satisfaction. Develop and manage a staff schedule (instructors and lifeguards) to run membership swim, lessons, and other aquatics programs; including collaboration with other departments to supporting all the agency’s programming. Train staff on emergency prevention, response, and reporting. Prepare and oversee timely and accurate submission of payroll. Program Operations: Teach group and private lessons, where appropriate. Conduct trainings in lifeguarding, WSI, CPR/AED, and first aid to agency staff as well as community participants. In consultation with the Facilities Director, manage the maintenance operations and quality standard aquatics facilities to comply with agency regulations and state and local health department regulations, including permits, certifications, and emergency equipment. Communicate with external partners regarding rental contracts and usage. Maintain and replenish aquatics equipment and needs. Participate in agency-wide meetings and programs, including weekly staff meetings, the annual Riverdale Run and Open House. Ensure Aquatic program materials and supplies are well-maintained, stored, cleaned, organized, and replenished. Able to work a flexible schedule, including early morning, evening and weekend hours and prepared to spend whatever time necessary on site to ensure the pool is operating at its highest level. Qualities and Characteristics : High level of emotional intelligence, relatable to people of all ages. Highly organized and able to demonstrate sound judgment, initiative and critical thinking. Results-driven ability to effectively lead and partner with colleagues. Strong understanding of a mission-driven business model. Commitment to excellent customer service and satisfaction, innovation, and creativity. Self-motivated with the ability to work without supervision. Flourishes in a hands-on, collaborative work setting. Exceptional communicator, both written and verbal. Cultural competence in working with colleagues and clients of diverse backgrounds and identities. Strong ability to lead, motivate, communicate and manage staff. Qualifications : Minimum five years in aquatics industry, aquatics leadership experience perferred. LGI, WSI, CPR, AED and First Aid certifications. Certified Pool Operator or able to obtain within six months of employment. Experience working or volunteering in the nonprofit sector preferred. Knowledge of Jewish holidays, traditions and culture a plus. Bachelor’s Degree in sports, fitness or related field preferred. Salary : $60,000-$70,000 (commensurate with experience), including the following benefits: Individual and family membership to our Fitness Center. Generous time-off package. This is a full-time, in-person role, Sunday - Thursday with occasional evenings and holidays throughout the year. About The Riverdale YM-YWHA : The Riverdale Y is a 50,000 sq. ft. Jewish Community Center that provides educational, recreational, cultural, and wellness programming for children and adults of all ages.
