Job description

Assistant Director of Recreation for Aquatics and Intramurals

We seek an energetic individual capable of professional interactions with patrons and program participants, with the ability to mentor student employees. The ideal candidate should be organized in a fast-paced environment, proficient in various software programs, and capable of developing and implementing policies. Self-reliance, vigilance, accurate communication, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion are essential.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage Aquatics Staff and Programs: Recruit, supervise, and train lifeguards, instructors, and student supervisors. Teach swim lessons, CPR-Pro, and Lifeguard Certification classes. Maintain records related to user loads, participation, assessments, and budgets. Manage the Recreational Swim Program, including member recruitment and program guidelines. Conduct swim testing for sports clubs and summer camps.
  2. Co-Coordinate Intramural Sports: Produce league schedules, tournament brackets, and special event schedules. Assist with equipment inventory and maintenance. Supervise contact-sport leagues and oversee tournaments. Mentor and train sports supervisors and officials.
  3. Support Recreation Facility Operations: Assist with facility scheduling, daily operations, and supervision during peak hours. Co-coordinate the overnight equipment loan program. Liaise with the Red Cross for instructional materials and certification tracking. Teach CPR & First Aid. Implement risk management plans. Attend departmental meetings. Support summer camps, leagues, and rentals. Coordinate marketing efforts. Serve on weekend on-call rotations. Conduct program outcome assessments.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with at least two years of experience in college/community aquatics or equivalent. Certified American Red Cross Lifeguard instructor, with experience or capability in water safety instruction. Broad knowledge of athletics/recreational sports and experience working with college students are preferred.

Compensation

Annual salary plus medical insurance and retirement benefits. Requires weekend and evening work; a Sunday-Thursday schedule during academic sessions.
