Job summary

The YMCA in Worcester, MA is seeking an aquatic services professional to maintain high member service standards, supervise programs, and cover lifeguard and swim instruction shifts. You will help ensure safety, support the annual campaign, and participate in branch activities within the aquatic department.

Qualified candidates have Lifeguard and CPR/First Aid certifications, plus a degree or substantial aquatic experience and supervision background.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred and/or 2 years aquatic experience.
• Minimum 1 year of supervision experience.
• CPR, AED and First Aid certifications required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain highest member service standards in the aquatic department.
• Assist with implementation and supervision of aquatic programs per YMCA standards.
• Cover lifeguarding and swim-instruction shifts as needed.
• Maintain aquatic safety per Department of Public Health standards.
• Apply Character Development and YMCA focus areas in programs.
• Lead the branch’s Annual Campaign and assist with related events.
• Attend Aquatic Mission Impact Team meetings and required branch meetings.
• Oversee pool and department upkeep.
• Assist in other branch programs as directed by the Aquatic Director.
• Teach lifeguard certification classes as necessary.
• Cover coaching shifts as needed.
• Assist in private and group swim lesson scheduling.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Ensure that the highest member service standards are constantly maintained in the aquatic department.
• Assist with implementation and supervision of all aquatic programs and collaborations ensuring the highest quality and adherence to YMCA standards.
• Actively cover both lifeguarding and teaching shifts as needed for call outs.
• Ensure the highest standards for aquatic safety, including Department of Public Health standards, are constantly maintained.
• Ensure the Character Development and YMCA focus areas are implemented in the aquatic department and programs.
• Play an active leadership role in the branch’s Annual Campaign, assist leadership in the successful completion of the campaign and other related special events and activities
• Attend Aquatic Mission Impact Team meetings and other required meetings within the Branch and Association.
• Assume responsibility for the physical upkeep of the pool and department.
• Assist in any and all branch programs and activities at the request of the Aquatic Director.
• Teach lifeguard certification classes as necessary.
• Cover coaching shifts as necessary.
• Assist in private swim lesson registration and group lesson scheduling.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree preferred and/or at least 2 years of experience in the aquatic field (both lifeguarding and swim instruction)
• At minimum, 1 year of experience in supervision
• Requires completion and maintaining certification as Lifeguard
• Strong communication and human relation skills in dealing with staff and members are essential. This position requires decision making skills, as it relates to aquatic safety and the efficient operation of the aquatic area.
• Possess and maintain CPR, AED and First Aid Certifications.

Job Type: Part-Time (Non-Exempt)

Schedule: 20-25hrs/week. Hours may vary depending on department's needs.

Pay: $18.00/hour
