Qualifications

Job description

The Aquatic/Recreation Program Coordinator is primarily an active, hands‑on aquatics role. The majority of scheduled work hours are spent on the pool deck actively lifeguarding, supervising lifeguard and swim lesson staff on duty, delivering aquatics training, and providing operational and administrative support to the Aquatic Specialist. The coordinator also provides for the overall general health, safety, and enjoyment of aquatic patrons at the Derry Township Community Center; assists in the maintenance of the swimming pools; monitors and records pool chemistry and cleanliness; reports all accidents/incidents promptly and completes required forms; and inspects lifeguard equipment. Hours will be assigned for the position but must remain flexible. May be required to work evenings, holidays, and weekends. Summer responsibilities will vary based on facility needs.

PAY: $20.02 per hour

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES

The following duties represent the primary functions of this position.

• Active Lifeguarding – Performs lifeguard duties during assigned shifts, maintaining constant patron surveillance, enforcing aquatic safety rules and policies, and responding to emergencies in accordance with American Red Cross Lifeguard standards.
• Supervision of Lifeguard and Swim Lesson Staff – Provides on‑deck supervision of lifeguards and swim lesson instructors during shifts; ensures proper rotation and coverage, monitors staff performance, provides real‑time feedback, and takes corrective action as needed to maintain a safe aquatic environment. Fills in during aquatic staff absences to ensure operations remain in compliance.
• Aquatics Staff Training – Assists in conducting in‑service training, skills reviews, emergency action practice drills, and ongoing professional development for lifeguard, swim lesson, and duty supervisor staff to ensure readiness and regulatory compliance.
• Operational and Administrative Support to the Aquatic Specialist – Assists the Aquatic Specialist with recordkeeping, incident documentation, pool chemistry monitoring and recording, equipment inspection, program coordination, and other operational and administrative tasks as assigned.
• Facility Safety and Maintenance – Maintains cleanliness and safety of the pool area; conducts regular equipment inspections; and ensures prompt reporting and completion of all required accident/incident documentation.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND SKILLS

• Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
• Must obtain Certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR/AED prior to start date.
• American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
