Seasonal Position - $25/hour; 15-30 hours/week.
Job Summary
The Aquatics Supervisor is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the aquatic facility, ensuring a safe and well-maintained environment for all users. This role helps in overseeing lifeguards, monitoring safety protocols, and assisting with the coordination of aquatic activities. The Supervisor also works closely with management to ensure smooth facility operations and assists in providing excellent service to members and guests. Under the direction of the Reservoir Beach Facilities Director, the Aquatics Supervisor provides supervision for lifeguards, monitors activities in the water, and functions as a lifeguard as needed. The Aquatics Supervisor will participate in scheduling and assigning lifeguard duties, giving instructions on lifeguard rotations, rules, safety practices, maintenance, and related matters.
Essential Functions
- Closely monitor activities related to the bathing area, identifying any safety issues throughout shift.
- Supervise swimming activities and ensure that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures, including during inclement weather.
- Monitor water chemical levels, equipment functionality, and general facility maintenance, reporting any issues to the Facility Director.
- Support the implementation of aquatic programs, such as swim lessons, and summer camp swimmer evaluations.
- Coordinate with camp and program staff to conduct swimming lessons, as needed.
- Help verify the accuracy of lifeguard time reporting in Connecteam.
- Participate in pre-season orientation with all staff and conduct training drills to maintain safety standards as needed throughout the season.
Additional Duties
- Due to the dynamic nature of the Reservoir Beach, employees are expected to assist others as needed and take on additional tasks as assigned by management.
- Follow all Recreation Department policies, procedures, and instructions.
- Represent the department team by supporting and enforcing policies while maintaining the highest standards of ethics and integrity.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism and a commitment to excellence in interactions with visitors, colleagues, and support staff.
- Promote and follow safe working practices, ensuring compliance with safety guidelines and encouraging others to do the same.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Oversee lifeguard staff and create daily lifeguard rotation schedules.
- Directly supervise the activities and performance of lifeguards and provide functional oversight to other aquatics staff.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Arlington Recreation policies and applicable laws.
- Schedule staff, plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance, address complaints and resolve problems.
Work Schedule
- Approximately 15-30 hours per week.
- Flexibility to be available on weekends and/or holidays.
- Flexibility to work additional hours as needed to meet position requirements.
Minimum Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- 3 years of experience as a lifeguard and interacting with people of various ages with diverse backgrounds.
- Previous supervisory experience preferred.
Physical requirements: Strenuous physical effort is often required to perform duties. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, speak and hear, use hands to operate equipment, climb or balance, stoop and reach with hands and arms. The employee is routinely required to lift, move, and/or push items weighing up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include the ability to read routine documents and operate equipment.
And/or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Certifications
- First Aid/AED/CPR required.
- American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguard certification (or similar) required.
- ARC instructorship in the areas of Water Safety (WSI) and Lifeguard Training (LGT) is preferred.
