Job summary

City and County of Honolulu is seeking a Recreation Director II (Swim) for the Waialua Complex. The role plans, organizes, and directs a comprehensive aquatic program across municipal facilities, ensuring safe, engaging activities for all ages.

You will recruit and supervise staff, manage budgets, evaluate performance, and coordinate events and special activities. Evening, holiday, and weekend work may be required as part of disaster response and community service.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in recreation, physical education, education or related field.
• Work experience may substitute for a bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis, with proper documentation.
• Education must be met at the time of application; foreign credentials may require evaluation.

Responsibilities

• Develop and coordinate aquatic programs for all ages and organize events and competitions.
• Assess needs, set goals, and adjust offerings based on feasibility and demand.
• Recruit, train, and supervise staff including instructors and lifeguards.
• Evaluate program performance using feedback and statistics to improve services.
• Assist with budgets, enforce rules, and develop policies and procedures.
• Transport supplies or participants using department vehicles.
