POSITION TITLE: Aquatic Center Assistant Manager - Part Time, approx. 25 hours per week

SALARY: No less than $18.54 per hour

PURPOSE STATEMENT

The job of Assistant Manager – Aquatic Center is done for the purpose/s of assisting with daily operational leadership and on-site supervision of aquatic center functions during assigned shifts; ensuring safe, efficient, and customer-focused operations; supervising staff; coordinating programs and facility use; maintaining high standards of safety, cleanliness, and service; and supporting the overall effectiveness of the Aquatic Center.

REPORTS TO: Aquatic Center Coordinator

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Register students for Aquatic Class registrations
  • Answer Aquatic questions and be familiar with the on-goings of the Aquatic Center
  • Be familiar with classes and enrollment procedures
  • Work closely with the Aquatic Director and other pool managers
  • Effectively manage a staff of four to eight employees consisting of lifeguards, swim instructors, aerobics instructors, swim team coaches, front desk attendants, and administrative assistants

OTHER FUNCTIONS

  • Assists with special events and facility setup for the purpose of supporting community and district activities.
  • Supports Aquatics Education and program staff as needed for effective program execution.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Be at least 18 years of age

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

SKILLS are required to perform multiple operational and supervisory tasks with a focus on real-time decision-making and staff oversight. Specific skill-based competencies include: supervising staff in an aquatic environment; responding to emergencies; providing customer service; operating aquatic facility systems; maintaining records; and using standard office equipment and procedures.

KNOWLEDGE is required to understand policies, safety regulations, and health codes related to aquatic facilities; perform basic math calculations; read and interpret technical and operational documents; and communicate effectively with staff, patrons, and supervisors. Knowledge-based competencies include: aquatic safety standards; staff supervision practices; and facility operations.

ABILITY is required to supervise staff during active operations; make decisions under pressure; communicate effectively with diverse groups; maintain accurate records; adhere to safety practices; and respond to changing conditions. Problem solving may require independent decision-making within established parameters.

RESPONSIBILITY

Responsibilities include: working under general supervision; providing on-site direction and leadership to staff; making operational decisions during assigned shifts; ensuring compliance with established procedures; and supporting the overall success of the Aquatic Center. The position has a direct impact on safety, customer experience, and daily operations.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: swimming in shallow and deep water, significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. The job is performed in indoor and outdoor pool environments, including exposure to moisture and temperature variations.

EXPERIENCE: Job-related experience in aquatics supervision or recreation programming is required.

REQUIRED TESTING AND CERTFICATIONS

Certificates & Licenses Required:

  • Lifeguard Certification (required)
  • Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) Certification (required)

Continuing Education / Training:

  • Maintains all required certifications and participates in ongoing professional development

Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance
