Job summary

Howard Hughes Medical Institute's Janelia Research Campus is hiring Aquatics Technicians to support larval zebrafish and Danionella care. This 3-month temporary role focuses on maintaining high standards of animal welfare and providing technical support to researchers in the Aquatics department.

We seek candidates with a life science background, basic vertebrate animal experience, and the ability to work independently in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• This role requires a college degree in life sciences or a related field with basic training in animal care.
• Six months of experience working with vertebrate animal species is preferred.
• Experience in a basic or applied science research setting is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Perform animal husbandry and care for multiple aquatic species (feed, clean tanks, observe daily, maintain water systems).
• Clean and sanitize animal holding or procedure rooms.
• Provide environmental enrichment appropriate to the species housed.
• Assist with crossing, fin clips, injections, and clinical treatments as directed.
• Set up breeding units for zebrafish and Danionella as directed.
• Use databases for animal recordkeeping and study support.
• Assist with receiving, stocking, and maintenance of all supply inventories.
• Maintain and record data for all duties completed.
