Summary:

The Apprentice - Patient Access - Emergency Department role is the initial contact for patients at Maine Medical Center - Biddeford/Sanford. The role requires exceptional customer service skills in all interactions. Responsibilities include complete and accurate patient registration, insurance verification, medical necessity validation, identifying and collecting amounts due from patients, entering orders, and ensuring an efficient flow of clinical, administrative, and clerical tasks. The role also involves obtaining patient signatures on consent and assignment forms, handling insurance denial notices, and assisting with accommodations for patients with special needs. All tasks must be performed according to established protocols and accuracy standards while demonstrating the Champions of Care expectations of Welcome, Listen, and Serve. Success in this role requires competence, flexibility, and adaptability to changes in healthcare delivery and technology.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
  1. Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.
  2. License/Certifications: N/A
  3. Experience: Previous clerical healthcare and customer service experience preferred.
  4. Additional Skills/Requirements: N/A
