Job summary

Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, NM is seeking an Apprentice for building maintenance across facilities, vehicles and equipment. You will perform a broad range of tasks outdoors and indoors under the Facilities Manager, supporting IAIA’s mission and core values.

The role requires a high school diploma, a valid NM driver’s license, and the ability to pass a background check. You’ll engage in snow removal, meeting setups and general campus upkeep, with varied physical duties.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance tasks on IAIA facilities, vehicles and equipment.
  • Assist with HVAC filter replacement, coil cleaning, carpentry, painting and drywall repairs.
  • Assist with minor electrical, plumbing and fixtures work.
  • Help assemble furniture and fixtures; maintain IAIA vehicles.
  • Run department errands and support snow removal and campus upkeep.
  • Assist with meeting and conference set-ups; perform other duties as assigned.

Description
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, the incumbent will perform a wide range of maintenance tasks of IAIA facilities, vehicles and/or equipment, which includes essential physical components material to the position and tasks often performed outdoors. Support IAIA’s mission, vision and core values.

THE APPRENTICE WILL BE TRAINED IN THE FOLLOWING FUNCTIONS:
  • Complete in an accurate and timely manner a wide range of assigned maintenance tasks, work-orders and/or a project on IAIA facilities and grounds, which include but are not limited to:
  • Filter replacement and coil cleaning of HVAC units
  • Minor carpentry, painting and drywall repairs
  • Minor electrical work, change outlets, lights, ballasts, etc
  • Minor plumbing, faucets, toilets, leaks
  • Assist with the assembly of furniture and fixtures.
  • Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of IAIA vehicles.
  • Complete assigned errands for the department, such as the purchase of supplies or delivery of items/materials.
  • Responsible for assisting with snow removal and general upkeep of Campus grounds.
  • Assist with meeting and conference set-ups.
  • Complete other duties as assigned
Requirements
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

Must have a high school diploma. Must have a current and valid NM drivers’ license. Must have a clean driving record, in order to be bondable to drive an IAIA vehicle. Must have an acceptable background check results.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Tasks are performed in varied external climates, which may vary from extreme cold to hot weather.
  • Tasks are also performed in interior environments which may contain dust, fumes and/or particles.
  • Duties require the ability to reach, stoop, bend and/or crawl.
  • Duties require the ability to move and/or maneuver items weighing up to 50lbs.
  • Duties require the ability stand for extended periods of time.
  • Duties require the ability to effectively and safely use a wide-range of maintenance tools.
  • Duties require the ability climb ladders to complete tasks, which may include climbing to the roofs of buildings.
  • Ability to complete all the physical dimensions and demands of the position.
