Job summary

The City of College Station is seeking an entry-level Lineman to support overhead and underground electrical distribution work. You will learn from a Foreman and assist Journeyman Linemen with construction, maintenance, and repairs on high voltage lines.

Expect on‑call duties, weekends, and overtime as needed, with safety training and opportunities to progress through a formal skill plan. The role requires climb capability and basic computer skills in a field environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Texas Class A CDL required or within 90 days of hire.
• Must maintain a residence within a 40-minute response time of the Utility Service Center within 6 months.
• Available for on-call work, emergency response, weekends and evenings.
• Willingness to work overtime and/or evenings/weekends as needed.
• Able to progress through the department's skill plan policy.
• Able to perform duties in varying weather, up to 90' heights, with lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Basic computer skills required.

Responsibilities

• Learn and assist with construction, maintenance, and repairs on overhead and underground distribution systems.
• Operate and maintain aerial devices, digger/derricks, excavation equipment, and other line-related tools.
• Observe safety precautions near energized circuits and hazardous chemicals.
• Dig pole and anchor holes; load, unload, install, and frame poles.
• Set transformers and pull conductors for primary and secondary lines.
• Operate, inspect, and maintain line-related equipment and devices.
• Climb poles with climbing hooks; troubleshoot distribution systems; assist Journeyman with switching and mapping.
