Job summary

The City of College Station is seeking a Lineman to perform skilled line work related to overhead and underground electrical systems. Responsibilities include maintenance, repairs, and assisting in training Apprentice Linemen.

Overview

Under the general supervision of the Foreman, the Lineman performs skilled line work in the operation, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground electrical distribution and transmission systems for College Station Utilities in accordance with departmental procedures, processes, and established safety protocols.

Principal Duties

Requires sufficient vision, hearing, manual dexterity, strength, and stamina to climb, work at heights up to 90’, and lift and use equipment within utility safety standards.

Duties

• Perform construction, maintenance, and repairs on the electrical overhead and underground distribution and transmission systems.
• Complete reports, documentation, and mapping information.
• Assist Foreman in training of Apprentice Lineman.
• Perform other related duties as assigned, including but not limited to, act as Foreman in his/her absence as designated.

Qualifications - Required

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
• Valid Texas Class A CDL or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire date.
• Must maintain a residence within a 40‑minute response time of the Utility Service Center within 6 months of accepting the position.
• Available to work on‑call, emergency response, weekends, and evenings.
• Willingness to work overtime and/or on evenings and weekends as needed.
• Ability to progress through the skill plan program within the specified period as defined in the department’s skill plan policy.
• Physical ability to work in a variety of weather conditions and extreme temperatures; work at heights of up to 90’ above ground level; frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping, climbing, and pushing/pulling; use hoist and dollies to lift and move heavy objects; and physically lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Possess basic level computer skills. Four (4) or more years of progressive electric utility line experience.

Qualifications - Preferred

• Graduate of a Lineman School or equivalent experience.
• Journeyman Lineman – Department of Labor Journeyman certification or equivalent.
