Job summary

Chain Electric Company seeks an Apprentice Lineman B for working on electrical overhead and underground distribution systems. The role requires climbing poles, operating bucket trucks, and performing splices, terminations, and installations.

Essential tasks include maintaining safety, following diagrams, and coordinating with teams on job sites. A valid CDL-B, own tools, and ability to work long hours are required; HS diploma or GED preferred with lineman training considered a plus.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2.5 years’ experience in groundman and lineman work; lineman training school qualifies for experience.
• Travel at a moment’s notice, anytime.
• Available to work irregular hours, weekends and holidays as needed.
• Possess a valid CDL-B license at minimum.
• Possess your own tools.
• Physically demanding construction duties in harsh weather conditions.
• Read and follow instructions.
• Lift minimum of 50 lbs.
• Ability to hear at long distance.
• Must see long distances, differentiate colors, and have depth/peripheral vision.

Responsibilities

• Regular attendance and punctuality.
• Adhere to safety practices and procedures; report unsafe conditions.
• Climb poles or use bucket trucks to access equipment at heights.
• Construct, maintain, and repair electrical distribution systems and substations.
• Verify proper grounding of equipment.
• Control traffic near work zones.
• Keep unauthorized people away from work area.
• Identify defective devices using diagrams and testing tools.
• Drive vehicles to job sites with tools and materials.
• String conductors and set lines; adjust tension with winches.
• Replace or straighten damaged poles.
• Attach cross-arms, insulators, and equipment to poles.
• Dig holes and set poles with cranes and power equipment.
• Splice cables and peel insulation as needed.
• Tin and splice conductors; join ends with clamps and soldering.
• Pull up cable from reels on trucks.
• Lay underground cable in trenches or conduits.
• Cut trenches for underground cables with trenchers.
