Job summary

City of Aurora is seeking a General Maintenance Apprentice to perform routine preventive maintenance and diagnostic work on a variety of automotive vehicles and equipment in an automotive shop setting.

The role involves training across hydraulic, electronic, and mechanical systems, with emphasis on safety, reporting, and maintenance procedures. A Colorado driver’s license is required; position offers benefits and a path to career growth.

Qualifications

• Education: High School diploma or GED.
• Preferred vocational training in automotive service.
• Experience: At least 6 months experience servicing automotive vehicles.
• Licenses and Certifications Required: Colorado driver's license with a good driving history.
• Knowledge: Automotive equipment maintenance and safety practices.
• Skills: Use of tools and equipment used in the tasks.
• Abilities: Communicate effectively and lift 50 pounds repeatedly.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance on City vehicles and equipment.
• Diagnose hydraulic, electronic, and mechanical systems.
• Maintain automotive operating systems and scheduled services.
• Prepare basic maintenance reports.
• Handle hazardous materials per EPA and City standards.
• Assist with washing, steam cleaning, and maintaining a diverse fleet.
• Maintain fluid levels and tire maintenance/repair.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
