Job summary

Amazon Science in Bellevue, WA is seeking a highly skilled Applied Scientist to design and implement scalable optimization and ML solutions for inventory routing and replenishment. You will prototype models in Java/Python, collaborate with software engineers, and contribute to production deployments within the IRR org.

The role requires a PhD in a relevant field, strong programming ability, and experience applying theoretical models to real-world problems at scale.

Qualifications

• PhD in operations research, applied mathematics, theoretical CS or equivalent.
• Experience programming with a modern language (Java, C++, C#) and OO design.
• Experience applying theoretical models in an applied environment.
• Experience in algorithms, data structures, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel/distributed computing.
• Experience building ML models or developing algorithms for business applications.
• Experience with 3P mathematical optimization software such as CPLEX/Gurobi/Xpress.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop advanced mathematical optimization and ML solutions in inventory optimization, distribution optimization, network design, and control theory.
• Use online/offline control techniques to design exact or heuristic solution methodologies for in-house tools.
• Prototype, simulate, and experiment with models using Java and Python; participate in production deployment.
• Write well-tested production Java/Python code for science modules; provide on-call support for production bugs.
