Job summary

Amazon Web Services (AWS) Compliance, Security and Assurance (CSA) is hiring an Applied Science Manager to lead a team of applied scientists. The role focuses on building decisioning and verification science for scalable compliance decisions at global scale, working with engineering, product, and compliance leaders to ship production systems.

The successful candidate will recruit and mentor scientists, shape the science roadmap, and communicate with senior AWS leadership and regulators.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of building large-scale machine learning and AI solutions at Internet scale
• Experience hiring and leading experienced scientists and developing junior members
• Experience distilling informal customer requirements into well-defined problems and objectives
• PhD in Computer Science is a plus and beneficial for research leadership

Responsibilities

• Lead, grow, and develop a team of applied scientists, setting technical direction and raising the bar on scientific rigor
• Own the science roadmap for areas of the CSA agenda including decision science for screening and global product and trade compliance
• Partner with engineering, product, and compliance leaders to move science from prototype to production systems under audit scrutiny
• Translate ambiguous compliance problems into well-posed scientific problems and shipped capabilities with measurable outcomes
• Represent CSA science to senior AWS leadership, auditors, regulators, and the broader research community
