Job summary

Amazon Web Services, Inc. seeks an Applied Science Manager to lead a team of applied scientists and analysts building the data and ML capabilities behind AWS Startups.

You will own the science roadmap end-to-end, from data foundations to a portfolio of ML models and surfaces that deliver insights to startup-focused products. You will balance hands-on technical leadership with people management, set technical bar, and collaborate with product, engineering, design, and GTM teams to scale solutions

Qualifications

• 2+ years of scientists or ML engineers management experience.
• Master’s degree in engineering, technology, computer science, ML, robotics, OR statistics or equivalent.
• Master’s degree, or PhD and 4+ years of ML model development experience.
• Experience with programming languages such as Python, Java, C++.
• Knowledge of ML approaches and algorithms.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of applied scientists, BI engineers, and analysts; hire and develop talent.
• Own and prioritize the team’s science roadmap and ML model/data assets.
• Design experiments and productionize models delivering measurable impact.
• Advance the science behind recommendations, segmentation, targeting, and fraud detection.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, design, and GTM teams to translate science into scalable products.
• Promote a culture of rigor and rapid experimentation with risk mitigation.
