Job summary

SimVentions is seeking an Applied Mathematician or Applied Physicist to join the NSWC Dahlgren Division SLBM team in Dahlgren, VA. The role focuses on designing and executing automated and manual tests aligned to requirements, collaborating with developers and government customers to resolve defects, and contributing to test plans and artifacts.

Requirements include 2+ years in applied math/physics for engineering, 1+ year in software testing, Linux familiarity, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of professional applied mathematics or applied physics experience in support of engineering projects.
  • 1+ years of software/systems testing experience or equivalent education; can be concurrent with applied math or applied physics experience.
  • Familiarity reviewing C++ code.
  • Experience using Linux systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to find, document, and help resolve complex software issues.
  • Experience linking requirements to test cases and managing test artifacts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable presenting to customers.
  • Strong teamwork and the ability to manage multiple tasks with limited supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts and frameworks.
  • Write detailed test plans, test descriptions, and test cases tied directly to requirements.
  • Execute manual and automated testing (static, dynamic, integration, and system-level).
  • Perform requirements traceability using DOORS, Jira, and other tools.
  • Identify, document, and track software defects; collaborate closely with developers for rapid resolution.
  • Review peers’ test documentation and provide constructive feedback.
  • Participate in Agile Sprint meetings and Configuration Control Board (CCB) activities.
  • Interface directly and professionally with government customers daily.
  • Occasionally present technical testing documentation.
