Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) invites graduates in chemistry or chemical engineering to join the Applied Chemistry and Physics team. You will contribute to multi-disciplinary projects that develop sensors, detectors, and chemistry-based analytical tools for DHS, DoD, and the IC.

You will collaborate with physicists, engineers, analytical chemists and biologists to address national challenges, requiring hands-on lab work and strong communication in a team

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related technical field, with a strong academic record.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; able to work in a team.
  • Eligible for Interim Secret clearance at start date and ability to obtain Secret clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to meetings with government partners and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, and evaluate scientific instrumentation for national defense and security.
  • Synthesize and evaluate new molecules, polymers, and biomolecules for defense, health, environmental science.
  • Hands-on laboratory work to develop solutions to applied chemistry and physics problems.
