Job summary

Abby Care in San Francisco is seeking an experienced AI leader to define and drive the Applied AI strategy for home-based care software. You will architect agentic systems, integrate with core workflows, and ensure safe, scalable autonomous AI across the platform.

You will mentor engineers, shape technology directions, and collaborate with product, clinical, and operations teams to deliver measurable improvements in care delivery, safety, and efficiency.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in software engineering, ML, or Applied AI with production systems.
• Experience defining architecture and leading AI-powered product delivery.
• Hands-on with modern language models, agent architectures, retrieval, and evaluation.
• Experience designing systems over complex, unstructured data.
• Strong software engineering and system-design fundamentals.
• Experience establishing evaluation methodologies and production monitoring.
• Demonstrated ability to drive high-leverage problems from ambiguity to outcomes.
• Experience leading and mentoring engineers across teams.
• Strong product and operational judgment balancing autonomy, reliability, cost, and risk.
• Excellent written and verbal communication to align technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
• Must reside in or relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area.
• Experience with fine-tuning, RL, synthetic data, knowledge graphs, or state machines preferred.

Responsibilities

• Set the Applied AI vision and roadmap: define AI-driven workflows across intake, care, revenue, and compliance.
• Build the intelligence layer of Abby Care’s OS: architect and develop agentic systems that reason and act.
• Design for safe and scalable autonomy with human-in-the-loop patterns.
• Create shared AI foundations: orchestration, retrieval, outputs, and evaluation primitives.
• Establish production and evaluation rigor: monitor quality, safety, latency, and cost.
• Build and lead the Applied AI function: recruit, mentor engineers, and stay hands-on as needed.
