Job summary

Rocket Money is seeking an Applied AI Engineer to help build, evolve, and operate the Capabilities Engine—the core platform enabling agentic behavior across AI-powered experiences.

You'll turn ambiguous product needs into durable systems, collaborate with product, design, data and operations, and mentor engineers while delivering safe, observable, and production‑ready capabilities that empower agents to plan, invoke, and recover across methods.

Qualifications

• Experience shipping production software with strong engineering fundamentals.
• Hands-on experience with LLM applications, agentic systems, tool calling, or workflow orchestration.
• Ability to reason from customer need to product experience to technical architecture.
• Ability to operate across ambiguity, set tradeoffs, and deliver dependable systems.
• Strong communication and collaboration across product, design, data, operations, and platform teams.

Responsibilities

• Build, evolve, and operate the Capabilities Engine as a foundation for agentic product behavior.
• Design abstractions to discover, invoke, compose, observe, and improve capabilities.
• Collaborate with method owners across contact methods to integrate with the Capabilities Engine.
• Turn repeated patterns into reusable capabilities, interfaces, and operating practices.
• Provide guidance on monitoring reliability, latency, cost, observability, and safety of capability execution.
• Develop evaluation loops including tests, metrics, traces, and regression suites.
• Debug production issues across model behavior, tool execution, orchestration, and product constraints.
• Document contracts, tradeoffs, and operational expectations for other teams.
