Job summary

Monroe Environmental Corp. is seeking an Applications & Estimating Engineer to support sales through engineering, design, and commissioning of air pollution control and water/wastewater treatment systems.

You will prepare cost estimates and technical proposals, design systems, and collaborate with project engineers, vendors, and customers. Familiarity with AutoCAD/SolidWorks is preferred, along with strong communication and reading drawings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical or chemical preferred).
  • 3–5 years of experience as a mechanical engineer, chemical engineer, estimator, or project engineer.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and other design software.
  • Ability to read engineered drawings, prints, and specs.

Responsibilities

  • Applications engineering and system design of air pollution control and/or water and wastewater treatment equipment.
  • Assist sales engineers to evaluate new opportunities from technical feasibility standpoint.
  • Prepares technical proposals which describe equipment design, scope of supply, exclusions, project schedules, and prices.
  • Prepares detailed cost estimates which include allocations for engineering, manufacturing, project management, materials, and other specific project costs.
  • Mechanical design and process engineering, including piping design and calculations, equipment sizing, and component selection.
  • Selection of pumps, fans, and other process equipment through evaluation and technical review of materials of construction, flow/pressure, and other process requirements.
  • Prepares engineering drawings and schematics (GA, PID/PFD, etc.).
  • Assists with preparing engineering submittals for customers.
  • Prepares purchasing requisitions for system components.
  • Assist with writing, compiling, and editing Installation, Operation, and Maintenance Manuals.
  • Review customer approval drawings, shop fabrication drawings, installation drawings, O&M manuals, bill of material, and subcontractor scopes of work.

Position Summary: The focus of the Applications & Estimating Engineer is to support the sales efforts of the company for the engineering, design, and commissioning of air pollution control and/or water and wastewater treatment systems. This is accomplished primarily through preparing costs estimates and technical proposals for Monroe Environmental equipment and services. It requires process and applications engineering, system design, and collaboration with project engineers, mechanical designers, customers, vendors, sub-contractors, and related project stakeholders.

Responsibilities:
  • Applications engineering and system design of air pollution control and/or water and wastewater treatment equipment
  • Assist sales engineers to evaluate new opportunities from technical feasibility standpoint
  • Prepares technical proposals which describe equipment design, scope of supply, exclusions, project schedules, and prices
  • Prepares detailed cost estimates which include allocations for engineering, manufacturing, project management, materials, and other specific project costs
  • Mechanical design and process engineering, including piping design and calculations, equipment sizing, and component selection

  • Resolves discrepancies by proactively collecting and analyzing missing or required information
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing technical publications
  • Additional duties as identified by team members
Requirements
Skills and Experience:
  • Engineering and mechanical system design, preferably in industrial capital equipment
  • Familiar with the design of tanks in metal and plastic/FRP, pumps and piping systems, fans and ductwork, structural steel, instrumentation, and controls
  • Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and other software applications essential
  • Knowledge of air handling systems and/or water treatment technologies
    • Industrial processes which generate water and air pollution
    • Water pollutants and properties (metals, suspended solids, dissolved solids, oils, etc.)
    • Pumps, maintenance, curves, and hydraulic principles/laws
    • Air pollutants and properties (acid gases, alcohols, oils, VOCs, PM, mist, etc.)
    • Fan curves and laws – pressure, velocity, horsepower, and airflow
  • Ability to read engineered drawings, prints, and specs
  • Experience visiting industrial facilities a plus:
    • Refineries (Oil & Gas)

  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Work experience in a manufacturing or engineering work environment
  • Computer proficiency: Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
Education and/or Beneficial Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical or chemical preferred) or related field preferred
  • MInimum of 3-5 years of experience as a mechanical engineer, chemical engineer, estimator, or project engineer
