Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking an Applications Engineer-ENT to design, develop, and maintain RESTful web services and associated backend components. The role involves building UI features, aligning frontend with backend APIs, and deploying cloud-hosted solutions using Azure DevOps.

The candidate will work in an Agile/Scrum environment, utilizing both SQL and NoSQL databases, and contribute to automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and supervisory code quality across the stack.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in information systems or related field required.
  • Two years of related experience required.
  • Experience building both client-side and server-side components.
  • Experience designing and integrating modular APIs.
  • SQL query development for data integrity and reporting.
  • Familiarity with secure data exchange and authentication protocols.
  • Understanding of SDLC, automated testing, CI/CD concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain RESTful web services and backend components using JavaScript/TypeScript and JSON-based data exchange.
  • Build and maintain UI components and integrate front-end with backend APIs and workflows.
  • Engineer backend and distributed components using cloud platforms with service-oriented/microservice architecture.
  • Utilize relational and NoSQL databases for persistence, logic, queries, and reporting.

  • Maintain and update JavaScript UI libraries and implement new front-end features.

Description
DUTIES

Design, develop, and maintain RESTful web services and backend application components using JavaScript/TypeScript and JSON-based data exchange. Build, update, and maintain user interface components and integrate front-end functionality with backend APIs and workflows. Engineer backend and distributed application components using cloud platforms, applying service-oriented and microservice-aligned architectural principles. Utilize relational and NoSQL databases for data persistence, application logic, query design, and reporting. Develop automated build and deployment pipelines and perform unit, integration, regression, and TDD-based testing to ensure system reliability. Deploy, monitor, and support cloud-hosted software environments using tools such as Azure DevOps and related cloud automation technologies. Maintain and update JavaScript-based UI libraries and implement new front-end features and enhancements as required. Participate in Agile/Scrum development workflows using project management tools such as Azure DevOps for task tracking, source control, and team collaboration.

Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree in information systems or related field and two years of related experience. Full-Stack Web Application Development: Experience developing both client-side and server-side components of web applications using standard development environments and modern web technologies. Front-End Engineering: Ability to translate functional requirements or design specifications (such as wireframes or mockups) into responsive, user-friendly interfaces using standard web languages and component-based libraries. API and Service Development: Experience designing, implementing, and integrating modular APIs using common service-oriented or microservice-based architectural patterns. Relational Database Interaction: Experience working with relational databases and writing SQL queries to support application functionality and data integrity. Secure System Communication: Operational familiarity with secure data exchange mechanisms, including authentication and authorization protocols used in enterprise application environments. Automated Software Delivery: Working knowledge of software development lifecycle practices, including automated testing, build processes, and deployment workflows (CI/CD concepts).
