Job summary

The University of Houston is seeking a software-focused Front-end Developer to design, implement, and maintain enterprise web applications on-site in Houston, TX. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver responsive interfaces and integrated services using React/Angular/Vue, .NET back-ends, and cloud deployments.

The ideal candidate brings strong front-end skills, experience with RESTful APIs, and familiarity with AI-assisted design tools.

Qualifications

  • Requires a 4 year degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of one year of directly job-related experience.
  • Department is willing to accept education in lieu of experience and vice versa.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement user interfaces using modern front-end frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.
  • Collaborate with a team to integrate APIs and services built in Python (FastAPI, Flask, etc.) and ASP.NET.
  • Update existing .NET-based applications with improvements and front-end integrations.
  • Work with stakeholders to translate UI/UX wireframes into functional, responsive code.
  • Use AI-driven design tools where appropriate.
  • Use Github, CI/CD pipelines, DevOPs workflows to manage development and deployment.
  • Deploy and maintain applications using Azure, AWS, or University cloud environments.

Description:

This position is 100% is on- site located at the University of Houston in Houston, TX. (Not Remote)

Analyzes, develops and modifies application programs and ad-hoc programs, under moderate supervision. May provide support to enterprise systems. Pursuant to the State of Texas Executive Order No. GA-48, this position researches, works on, or has access to critical infrastructure and requires the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the University infrastructure. This position requires personnel be routinely reviewed to determine whether or not criminal history or continuous connections for the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent the employee from being able to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure.

  1. Codes, tests, debugs, modifies and troubleshoots application programs and ad-hoc programs in accordance with shop standards.
  2. Analyzes complex application processes and systems and their underlying data structures; identifies and resolves problems.
  3. Installs, tests and troubleshoots vendor-supported applications.
  4. Assists users with understanding, testing and using applications and programs, which includes running programs for users.
  5. Documents data structures, run streams, applications, programs and other objects according to generally accepted practices.
  6. Uses non-core technologies to design, code, test, debug, modify and troubleshoot systems, such as voice activated responses, electronic data interchange and web interfaces.
  7. Learns new technologies and techniques.
  8. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MQ: "Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directly job-related experience. "

Additional Duties:

  • Design and implement user interfaces using modern front-end frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.
  • Collaborate with a team to integrate APIs and services built in Python (FastAPI, Flask, etc.) and ASP.NET.
  • Update existing .NET-based applications with improvements and front-end integrations.
  • Work with application stakeholders to translate needed UI/UX wireframes and user flows into functional, responsive code.
  • Use AI-driven design tools where appropriate.
  • Use Github, CI/CD pipelines, DevOPs workflows to manage development and deployment.
  • Deploy and maintain applications using Azure, AWS, or other cloud environments provided by the University.

The Ideal Candidate for this position should possess the following:

  • Demonstrable proficiency with React, Angular, or Vue
  • Demonstrable proficiency with HTML5, CSS3, Bootstrap 5, JavaScript/TypeScript, and responsive web design
  • Enthusiasm for learning on the job

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with Azure and AWS deployment workflows, cloud storage, and authentication services
  • Working knowledge of Python and ASP.NET
  • Focus on cross-platform compatibility, accessibility, and optimized application performance.
  • Experience using APIs, RESTful services, and JSON-encoded data
  • Working knowledge of containerized development (Docker, Kubernetes, or similar)
  • Practical working knowledge of Github, DevOPs pipelines, CI/CD automation
  • Ability to use AI design and coding tools
