Job summary
Sterling Engineering in Maine is seeking an experienced Applications Engineer to join its turnkey automation team. You will develop automation concepts, prepare project estimates and technical proposals, and work closely with Sales and customers.
This role involves collaborating with mechanical, electrical and controls engineers to evaluate automation requirements and recommend equipment, robotics, and processes. A strong customer-facing approach and proven estimating skills are essential.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of Applications Engineering experience
- 10+ years of automation experience
- Strong knowledge of custom automation and automated equipment
- Customer-facing experience with strong communication skills
- Experience with project estimating and automation concept development
- Mechanical or Electrical Engineering background preferred
- Associate degree or equivalent technical experience
- Robotics, machine vision, assembly automation, or material handling experience is a plus

Compensation: $100K–$120K+ DOE
Travel: Up to 25% domestic/international, typically short trips
We are seeking an experienced Applications Engineer to join an established custom automation manufacturer specializing in turnkey assembly systems and special-purpose automation for medical, defense, electronics, consumer, and industrial applications.
The Applications Engineer will develop automation concepts, project estimates, and technical proposals while partnering with Sales and customers.
- Develop concepts and technical solutions for custom automation projects
- Create estimates, quotations, and technical descriptions
- Work directly with customers and support Sales throughout the quoting process
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, controls, and engineering teams
- Evaluate automation requirements, equipment, robotics, and processes
- 5+ years of Applications Engineering experience preferred
- 10+ years of automation experience preferred
