Job summary

Markent Personnel is seeking an Application Engineer for a client that designs and manufactures automated assembly equipment in Milwaukee, WI. You will learn automation concepts while applying hands-on engineering skills and engaging with customers to shape solutions.

Requirements include a BS in Engineering with 2+ years of experience, strong problem-solving abilities, and good CAD skills (SolidWorks). Travel to customer sites and collaboration with sales and engineering teams are essential

Qualifications

• BS in Engineering and 2+ years of engineering experience.
• Good, logical problem-solving skills and the desire to work with customers.
• Good 3D CAD design skills, preferably in SolidWorks.
• Project experience and knowledge of manufacturing engineering processes helpful.
• Skills with welding, fixture design, robotics, automated assembly, material handling/conveyor systems, gauging, leak-testing, and machining would be helpful.
• Experience with automatic assembly or related factory automation and mechanical/electrical systems design is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Perform technical assessments of customer and market requirements in support of sales and business development.
• Conceptualize custom built machine applications, including CAD proposal sketches.
• Review quotation requests and discuss design needs with potential customers.
• Communicate with marketing and other engineering personnel to create the most appropriate design proposal.
• Involve third party vendors and suppliers in the quoting process where necessary.
• Travel to customer sites to assist in project or product development (5–10% travel).
• Give sales presentations to customers using PowerPoint to explain concepts.
• Obtain and prepare detailed estimates of time, quantities, labor and material costs for work areas such as design, testing, machine building, and installations.
• Follow up with customers to answer questions and assist in closing sales.

They will teach you the automation part of the job but need good hands-on engineering skills and a desire to learn and work with customers. The position reports to V.P. of Technical Sales.

What you will be doing:

• Perform a wide variety of technical assessments of customer and market requirements in support of sales and business development activities.
• Conceptualize custom built machine applications, including CAD proposal sketches.
• Review quotation requests and discuss design needs with potential customers.
• Communicate with marketing and other engineering personnel to create the most appropriate design proposal.

• Travels to the customer’s site to assist in project or product development, working with specific engineering design specifications, objectives and standards. (5% to 10% travel)

• Perform customer follow-up to answer proposal questions and assist in attempts to close the sale
