Job summary

TRUMPF North America in Farmington, CT seeks an Applications Engineer for sales support, product demonstrations, and post-installation application assistance. You will demonstrate automation and bending solutions, run time studies, and train customers on programming and operation of TRUMPF machines.

The role requires hands-on experience in sheet metal manufacturing, familiarity with FANUC robots, CAD/CAM systems, and strong customer-facing communication.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate customer product and production flow demonstrations and attend trade shows to increase product sales with a focus on automated bending machines.
• Provide customer application and sales support utilizing TRUMPF digital solutions both virtually and on-site.
• Perform feasibility analyses, time studies, and produce sample parts for customer evaluation.
• Continuously improve technology knowledge by participating in training and testing functions of the machine.
• Support machine startups and provide hands-on production assistance after installation.
• Be responsible for the assigned technology in the production showroom environment.
• Organize and provide customer product training courses with a focus on programming and operating equipment.
• Consult and demonstrate the latest machine-technology related solutions for Industry 4.0; use all hardware, software, and services that pertain to the technology to become a resident expert and go-to person for the technology.
• Collaborate with product centers and other TRUMPF subsidiaries to provide feedback on product development or improvement ideas for existing or new products in the field of bending technology.
• Assist with new machine introductions through testing and early customer support.
• Travel estimate is 30% on average, focusing on the USA, Mexico, and Canada.

Applications Engineer will perform essential functions for the Sales and Applications areas in the form of product demonstrations, time studies, and post‑sales customer application support. Besides the functional responsibility of applications for customer demos, the role will also work with customers after installation providing startup and production support.

Experience

• Multiple years of experience in sheet metal manufacturing, with strong knowledge of robotic bending and automated production.
• Experience in programming and operating industrial robots (FANUC preferred) is a plus.
• Proficiency in CAD/CAM systems, bending machine programming, and general machine tool operation.
• Understanding of manufacturing technologies and production software systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; customer‑facing experience required.
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. regularly; willingness to operate forklifts and overhead cranes.
